dal FT Alphaville
Earlier this month, Alphaville covered a proposal to replace private property with “shared ownership”.
The idea, which comes from Eric Posner and Glen Weyl, requires everyone to list the self-assessed value of all their possessions on a common database. You may remember them as the pair who argued that diversified index funds are a threat to competitive markets — an argument made by pointing to the notoriously unprofitable airline industry.
In their proposal, everything is always for sale to anyone willing to pay the listed price. See a car you like parked on the street? You can pull out your phone, buy it, and (potentially) drive right off.
