Visto che il precedente è agli sgoccioli ripartiamo da qui. Nella speranza che il prossimo lo intitoleremo lotta per la ripresa o simile...

Intanto la nostra gm con ford e chrysler stanno facendo una forte azione di lobby per farsi concedere il prestito ormai noto di 50 mld a tassi agevolati. L'intento è di avere l'assegnazione delle risorse prima delle elezioni e cioè entro ottobre per evitare che la questione si allunghi alla primavera prossima. I due candidati presidenziali sono anch'essi d'accordo. Non si pervengono per ora segnali da Bush ma credo che sia favorevole. In fin dei conti le tre aziendedanno direttamente lavoro a 240.000 americani + a qualche milione in aziende subfornitrici.
Con questi fondi il rischio di bancarotta diminuisce sostanzialmente. Sono fondi per il rinnovo tecnologico ma sono semplicemente un salvataggio mascherato.
Speriamo che il congresso li approvi il più in fretta possibile...


GM, Ford Bankruptcy Risk May Decline With U.S. Loans (Update3)

Sept. 8 (Bloomberg) -- General Motors Corp., Ford Motor Co. and Chrysler LLC's bankruptcy risk will fall as the likelihood increases that they will get as much as $50 billion in U.S. government loans, a JPMorgan Chase & Co. analyst said.

The loans, intended to assist the shift to more fuel- efficient vehicles, will gain political support because of the importance of Michigan, Ohio and Pennsylvania as swing states in the U.S. presidential election, Himanshu Patel, the New York- based analyst, wrote in a report today.

``We suspect the spirit behind supporting funding of the advanced automobile technology loans is to provide a helping hand to financially strapped Detroit,'' he said. ``As such, if the bill is eventually funded, the potential dollars involved could materially reduce near-term bankruptcy risk'' at some or all of the U.S.-based automakers.

The companies have made the loans their top lobbying priority as Congress returns today for a shortened fall session ahead of the presidential election. The automakers and their suppliers are trying to get the initial funding appropriated so it's available before the new Congress and president take office.

GM and Ford lost $24.1 billion in the second quarter as consumers, faced with record gasoline prices, shifted from the light trucks that provide most of the U.S. companies' sales to cars, benefiting overseas competitors such as Honda Motor Co. Total U.S. auto sales may drop to a 15-year low this year and fall even more in 2009, analysts have said.

All three automakers have said they have enough money to continue operating and are not considering bankruptcy. Auburn Hills, Michigan-based Chrysler, which is owned by Cerberus Capital Management LP, doesn't report detailed financial results.

Not a `Bailout'

``I absolutely don't think it's a bailout,'' Ford Chief Executive Officer Alan Mulally told reporters after a speech in Dearborn, Michigan, today. ``We haven't decided the exact nature of it but I think it's going to be a loan at lower interest rates. We're going to have to pay it back.''

GM spokesman Greg Martin said the funding is ``the highest priority for the industry right now. These loans will turbocharge advanced technology plans under way for the market. It's not a bailout for us.''

GM, based in Detroit, rose 12 cents, or 1.1 percent, to $10.83 at 4:01 p.m. in New York Stock Exchange composite trading. Dearborn-based Ford gained 14 cents, or 3.2 percent, to $4.53.

Mortgage Aid

The auto loans come back before Congress after the U.S. Treasury Department yesterday placed mortgage companies Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac in a government-operated conservatorship, ousting their chief executives and eliminating their dividends. The Treasury may buy as much as $200 billion of stock in the firms to keep them solvent.

The Treasury also said yesterday it will provide secured short-term funding to Fannie, Freddie and 12 federal home-loan banks, and purchase mortgage-backed debt in the open market. The government is taking an increasing role in financial markets, after the Fed six months ago provided $29 billion of financing to prevent Bear Stearns & Cos.'s collapse.

Congress needs to appropriate about $3.75 billion to cover the upfront cost of the initial $25 billion in auto-industry government loans, according to a July 25 estimate in a letter to House and Senate leaders. The letter was sent by 71 members of Congress urging support on the issue.

The automakers also want Congress to add $25 billion in new loans during subsequent years, and the industry is seeking fewer restrictions on how the funding is used.

Backing From Candidates

Senator John McCain, the Republican presidential candidate, and Democratic challenger Senator Barack Obama both have said they support the appropriation. White House spokeswoman Dana Perino said last week that the administration is talking to Congress and the auto industry about the issue, without saying if President George W. Bush supports the funding.

The initial $25 billion in loans was authorized in last year's energy bill. Rules to free up the funding are supposed to be written within a year of its December passage, Representative John Dingell said in an Aug. 4 letter to U.S. Energy Secretary Samuel Bodman.

The auto industry wants funding for those loans cleared before the current legislative session ends this month.

``The fact we had this funding already approved in the bill we think is a pretty strong point for getting the funding authorized this year,'' Joe Hinrichs, Ford's manufacturing chief, told reporters after a speech today in Kansas City, Missouri. He said he's talked to many government officials in the past week.

Dingell and other lawmakers have said Congress needs to consider the effect the companies have on the U.S. economy.

GM, Ford and Chrysler employ 240,000 people in the U.S. and account for 7 out of 10 U.S. autoworkers, according to a report released this year by the Automotive Trade Policy Council in Washington, which represents trade interests of the U.S. companies. They support another 5 million jobs at auto dealerships, suppliers and service providers.

Veloce intervento per inaugurare l'undicesimo volume della discussione: nella corsa presidenziale americana negli ultimi periodi McCain ha recuperato un forte gap nei confronti di Obama.
Sara Palin é stata una mossa azzeccata.
Ierisera, poi, si é aggiunta anche la gaffe di Obama sulla sua religione...

Al di là delle opinioni personali, nella logica di questa discussione spero fortemente che McCain possa diventare il nuovo n.1 USA, vista la sua maggior chiarezza riguardo le politiche di aiuto al settore dell'auto.

In ogni caso, più aumenta il consenso per McCain, più si allontana lo spettro dell'imprevedibile risultato ...

Anch'io ne dubito fortemente. In più il laspsus di obama sulla religione avrà fatto drizzare i capelli a molti.
Mccain su gm e ford è molto "caldo" è già andato a visitare le fabbriche e a promettere sostegno.
Alla fine penso che tutti e due sosterranno gm e ford. Non credo che nessuno dei due voglia veder e il ch11 di una azienda automobilistica nel suo mandato.

Di Mccain non sono ancora convinto della sua vice anche se per il momento tutti i sondaggi dicono che è stata una scelta azzeccata. Avrei preferito che en so ad es. Colin Powell.

Comunque ora è importante che il congresso usa deliberi al più presto gli aiuti. ANche solo per calmare la speculazione sui bond e permettergli una risalita.

ricordiamoci che Mccain era stato inizialmente fortemente contrario al primo prestito, solo per far retrofront all'ultimo momento per motivi elettorali, dato che sono in gioco tre stati in bilico.
Comunque, al di la della politica, credo il prestito a bassi interessi ci sarà ed, in quel caso, finalmente vedremo i nostri bond risalire a quotazioni più tranquille. Chissà, forse qualche agenzia di rating ci riporterà anche a livelli b o bb-.. un sogno?

Beh ... !? Io lo ripeto da settimane !

GM è ancora debole e rimane a letto con la febriciattola, ma ormai è nella fase di convalescenza ...

Tutte le news vanno nella direzione di un moderato, ma inequivocabile ottimismo ...

Se notate i delatori e i pessimisti sono quasi scomparsi dal thread ...

E' tipico di coloro che cominciano ad avere pochi argomenti e ... si sentono a disagio ad esibirsi ancora in pubblico sapendo di avere il "sederino scoperto" ...

Secondo me le quotazioni stanno salendo pian pianino sul possibile prestito da 50. Ma c'è sempre chi, con il portafoglio gonfio, si è preso un bello spavento e non esiterà a vendere a quotazioni decenti, anche in perdita moderata. Dati i volumi, sono queste le persone che per ora fanno mercato
Quanta sarà per esempio la percentuale di noi che si porta a scadenza i 33? e quelli che se la porterebbero a scadenza se le quotazioni tornassero a quota 75?
